SBS News Reports Philippine Show's Insensitive Actions

On August 12, a comedian was asked whether K-Pop groups postponed their concert after the death of one of the members in one of the show’s segments. Super Junior, SEVENTEEN, GOT7, and SHINee were the options.

Because he admitted that he is unfamiliar with K-Pop, the comedian resorted to using the lifeline option and asking the show’s hosts for help. When asked for their responses, the hosts tapped their feet to the background music. They also talked about Super Junior’s concert and Eunhyuk’s father’s alleged death.

The show was criticized by fans and the local concert producer for being insensitive. As a result, fans took to Twitter, where the hashtag #CancelTropangLOL became a trending topic on the same day. Tropang LOL did not release any statement regarding the controversy.

The K-Pop group postponed its Manila show after two of its members, Eunhyuk and Siwon, backed out due to the death of Eunhyuk’s father and Siwon testing positive for COVID-19. Instead, Super Junior insisted on holding a meet-and-greet with fans.

One week later, SBS News covered the entire incident, focusing on the noontime show’s reaction to it. Korean netizens were shocked that such actions were taken without accountability.
