Who is The Original Ending Fairy?

The term “ending fairy” is used to describe a person whose sole ending shot is captured by is captured by the camera.

According to several Korean online community sites, the origin of this phrase is attributed to EXO‘s Xiumin, who is also credited with popularizing the term “two-hand synchronization.”

The concept of the ending fairy emerged on back in 2013, when a gif of Xiumin shaking off confetti from his head before clapping for someone on stage at the end of SBS’s Inkigayo went viral. Fans started referring to him as “Ending Fairy Xiumin,” and this is how the term gained prominence.

In 2014, Xiumin was caught again on screen at the ending of the 2014 MAMA, becoming a hot topic once again as an ending fairy. In 2022, in an episode of Alcohol Street Fighter, he revealed that he was actually the original ending fairy reminiscing about the trend that started in 2013.

However, the term is also believed to have its roots in the first season of Produce 101 Season 1, during a group performance of Girls’ Generation‘s ‘Into The New World,’ when Jung Chaeyeon’s charismatic gaze during her ending shot caught the attention of many and the term was revived by Park Ji-hoon during the Produce 101 Season 2 in 2017.
